Norwood “Pee Wee” Barber Jr. recently visited Highland County Public Schools for a basketball clinic. Barber, uncle of Highland High School basketball coach Cane Sampson, is one of the most heralded athletes in the history of Virginia. Barber was a standout athlete in Harrisonburg, later playing at Florida State University, then drafted into the NBA by the Portland Trailblazers. He endured a career-ending injury before his NBA debut. Pee Wee is now teaching the game of basketball to youth. (Photos courtesy Cane Sampson)
