Zero To Hero Williams

The Recorder on October 01, 2026

On Highland Elementary School’s 20th day of school, HES principal designee Ali Williams shared about her work at the school and explained how she helps keep students safe, while supporting teachers. She read “The Very Busy Spider” and encouraged students to be like the spider — work hard at their job at school, keep trying, and never give up. The program was part of the school’s Zero to Hero initiative, with special activities and visits scheduled every 10 days of school, as students make their way to the first 100 days of school.   In this Kindergarten classroom, it also applies to Math with learning numbers 0-100 and counting by 5's and 10's. Every 10 days a visitor comes to share their career or talents with them. The students love making a snack to match the digit of 10 for that day.
