MONTEREY — The Highland softball team picked up a huge Pioneer District softball win here Monday evening, beating Craig County, 9-8.
The victory moved the Rams to 5-4 in the Pioneer and 5-8 overall, going into a home matchup with Parry McCluer on Tuesday (see separate story on tournament seedings) to close the regular season.
Amelia Good and Makynley Smith led the Highland offense with three hits each, while Sarah Liller, Kristina Neil and Brooklyn Bussard had two apiece.
Smith scored three runs and drove in two, Good and Liller both scored twice, Neil had four RBI and Ava Summers drove in two.
Liller pitched the victory for the Rams, striking out three, walking only one and giving up six earned runs.
Kallie Fisher had four hits for the Rockets, Daileigh Donithan had two hits and Kammie Fisher drove in three runs.
Kammie Fisher took the loss in the circle, striking out 10 and walking two.
Last Tuesday, Eastern Montgomery, the district regular season champion, beat Highland in Monterey, 12-1.
Bussard had two hits for the Rams, with Colleen Adams, Good and Hensley Neil adding one each.
Liller struck out one and walked three in the circle.
Macie Akers had two hits and drove in four runs for East Mont, while Carly Davidson-Bibb had three hits, two runs scored and four RBI.
Mary Miller pitched the victory, allowing four hits, while striking out nine and walking one.
