MONTEREY — The Highland girls’ basketball team played a pair of Pioneer District games over the last week, losing at home to Craig County, 62-42, last Thursday, and at Parry McCluer on Monday, 46-26.

Colleen Adams had a big evening last week.

Adams was honored as the lone senior girl before the game, was crowned Homecoming Queen at the half and on the court, and produced a 25-point, 13-rebound, four blocked shot effort against the Rockets, including a 12-for-16 effort at the free throw line.

Makynley Smith added 11 points for HHS, Adelaide Baxter pulled in 14 rebounds to go with four assists and three steals, and Anna Meehan had three steals.

Freshman Emily Smith put up 20 points to go with nine assists for Craig County, which led 36-23 at the halftime break, while Annalese Zimmerman had 13 points.

On Monday, the Rams trailed Parry McCluer by just nine, 26-17, after three quarters, but were outscored 20-9 in the fourth in Buena Vista.

Kayliegh Ramsey scored 19 points for the Fighting Blues, with Josie Martinez adding 15.

Brooke Williams led the Rams with 14 points and seven rebounds. Smith added six points on two threes, and Baxter had three steals.

Highland is 4-11 overall and 0-8 in the Pioneer District.

The Rams were at Narrows on Wednesday and are at Eastern Montgomery tonight. They will be the No. 6 seed in the Pioneer District Tournament and will be on the road at the No. 3 seed, Parry McCluer, for a first-round game, tentatively scheduled for Monday.
