MONTEREY — The Highland boys got back on the winning track here Saturday afternoon.

The Rams made 25-of-38 attempts from the free throw line in the game, including 10-of-13 in the final quarter, holding off Pocahontas County, 51-40.

The victory stopped a five-game losing skid for HHS.

The hosts led 23-14 at the half, but the game was tied at 29-all after three stops.

“Our bench came in and gave us some good quality minutes, helping us get the win,” said Ram coach Cole Armstrong.

The coach’s son did his part, too.

Zach Armstrong had 26 points, 15 rebounds, five steals and two assists to pace the winners, while Patton Hull scored 20 points, 12 in the final period.

Levi Warner had eight rebounds and Elijah Good snagged six boards for the Rams.

Cash Beers had 12 points for Pocahontas and Luke Taylor had 11.

Highland dropped a 42-29 Pioneer District contest at Craig County last Thursday.

The Rockets led 19-15 at the half and expanded the lead to 34-21 after three.

Caleb Cregger had 18 points for Craig County and Luke Potter added 12.

Zach Armstrong and Patton Hull paced the Rams with 10 points apiece, Elijah Good had six and Preston Jaccard added three.

Good pulled in 12 rebounds and Armstrong had six rebounds and four assists.

Highland is 8-5 on the season and 1-4 in the Pioneer District.

The Rams play at home against Bath County tonight, before traveling to Parry McCluer next Tuesday.
