MONTEREY β The Highland girls were in bounce back mode Monday night.
After a physical loss on Saturday, the Rams took control early in a 68-7 win over the West Virginia School for the Deaf.
Highland jumped to a 26-1 lead after one and was up 43-4 at the halftime intermission.
Makynley Smith and Brooke Williams each scored 19 to lead the winners, Colleen Adams added 13 points, five assists and four steals, while Amelia Good and Alissa Thompson both hauled in four rebounds.
βWe had to use this as a rebounding tool from Saturdayβs loss,β said HHS coach Cappy Jackson. βOur goal tonight was to focus on being better on the defensive side of the ball.β
Bindi Lowe had all seven points for the West Virginia school.
Paw Paw, W.Va. defeated the Rams in Monterey on Saturday, 39-29.
Shayla Tanouye had 22 points for the Pirates.
Adams scored 11 points to go with four rebounds and three steals for Highland, while Good had a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double.
Last Wednesday, the Rams won at VSDB, 53-16, in their season opener.
Highland led 20-4 after a quarter and 24-4 at the intermission.
Adams scored 12 of her game-high 18 points in the opening quarter and added four rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Adelaide Baxter had 16 points and five boards and Good knocked down a pair of threes on her way to eight points.
The Rams (2-1) open the Pioneer District season tonight at Bath County.
