NARROWS — Narrows had the big inning early here last Thursday.
The Green Wave, the regular season Pioneer District champion, added the tournament title, beating second-seeded Highland, 12-2, in five innings.
The hosts, now 15-2 on the season, scored six in the first, added a single run in the second and scored five more in the third.
Tucker Bryan was the catalyst for the Narrows offense from his leadoff spot, going 3-for-3, with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI. Cooper Helvey added two hits and scored three runs, while Sam McGlothlin also had two hits.
Hunter Owens went the distance on the mound, holding the Rams to four hits, while striking out nine and walking one.
Evan Kimble was 2-for-2 with an RBI for Highland, and John Wagner and Tristan Carpenter had one hit apiece.
Kimble had an RBI single in the first and Elijah Good drove home a run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth.
Zach Armstrong started and took the loss on the hill, allowing seven runs — only one earned — over two innings. He struck out four and walked five. Zack Wright worked two innings of relief.
Ten of the 12 Narrows runs were unearned as the hosts took advantage of four Highland errors.
The Green Wave was scheduled to host Fort Chiswell, the Mountain Empire District’s No. 4 seed, in the quarterfinals of the Class 1, Region C tournament, while Highland, 10-6 on the year, was slated to host Giles (7-13-1). The Rams’ game has been rescheduled to Friday at 5 p.m.
