RICHWOOD, W.Va. — The Highland varsity track team competed in the Paul Nettles Invitational last Friday at Richwood High School.
The event included 11 schools and was won by the James Monroe girls and Nicholas County boys.
Top 10 efforts from the Rams included Patton Hull in the 200 meters (9th, 25.74) and long jump (9th, 15-1), Chase Lupo in the long jump (10th, 14-10), the boys’ 4×100 relay team (Hull, John Wagner, Owen Honaker and Elijah Good, 7th, 51.27), Wagner in the shot put (7th, 35-1) and Colleen Adams in the 100 meters (8th, 14.32), 200 meters (8th, 31.19) and shot put (10th, 23-6).
“They did a good job,” said HHS coach Colby Jackson. “We had a few kids step up in key spots for us and compete well. Owen Honaker continues to improve on his times and has now run the 4×1 relay twice for us as a freshman. Patton Hull continues to improve on his 200 time. Kristina Neil and Colleen Adams have improved in the shot put and continue to throw better each week. I am excited for the district meet and having everyone healthy and focused.”
The Pioneer District meet will be held next Wednesday at Giles High School, with the Class 1, Region C championships slated for Monday, May 26, also at Giles.
