AMHERST — Highland opened its middle school track season with meets at Broadway and at Amherst County last week.

The Rams competed with host J. Frank Hillyard Middle School, Wilbur Pence Middle School and Redeemer Classical School last Tuesday.

Brooke Williams won two individual events — the seventh grade 400 meters (1:09.14) and long jump (12-2½) and teamed with Makynley Smith, Amelia Good and Addison Lockridge to win the 4×100 meter relay (59.64).

Williams also was second in the 100-meter dash (14.37), Smith was second in the 200 meters (33.74) and Kristina Neil was second in the shot put (26-6).

Friday, the Rams were one of 15 schools competing in the Amherst County Invitational.

Top 10 Highland performances included Williams in the 400 meters (8th, 1:10.90) and long jump (8th, 12-2), Neil in the shot put (9th, 23-8) and the 4×100 meter relay of Brooklyn Bussard, Lockridge, Smith and Williams (3rd, 58.25).

The Rams will compete in the Terrier Twilight Middle School Invitational at William Byrd on Friday, April 12.
